It’s done, my flight is booked!

On the 11th of May 2006 I shall be taking to the skies and heading off to Calgary, Alberta. It comes as a great relief that after a whole year since first thinking of going to work with Wycliffe, the end of the preparation is finally in sight.

As yet, I have not sorted out any accommodation to live in on arrival, nor a means of getting money for, say … food, when in Canada. But little details such as these will be worked out in time.

The realisation of what it might be like to go off for a whole year is also gradually sinking in – really exciting, yet just a little bit scary at the same time.

Visa!

It’s taken a long time, but today the Canadian “Service d’immigration” has issued the little letter I need to get to Canada.

Visa scan

Take this to the airport in Calgary, bring your passport, show the letter to a customs officer, do not pass go, do not collect £200 – and get a permit to stay for one year.

Hoorah!

Welcome to my new blog

Welcome to my new web log. I will be keeping this site updated as I prepare to go to Canada with Wycliffe Bible Translators.

Loads of people at from my local church and from Wycliffe in Canada have been vital in getting to the point I am at now. (Which, whilst still in the UK is a long way). The amount support that has been given - financial, organisational and of course prayer support – has been amazing.

I will need over £10,000 to support myself in Canada, and thanks to both the church and a few local charities, I am now nearly at that target. The next hurdle to jump is getting a work permit, so I am allowed to live and work in Canada for the year.
